マレーシア植物物語　Flowers in Malaysia

自分でもベランダで植物を育てていますが、大体枯れてしまいます。枯らすのが得意

I raise some plants at my balcony, but most of them have died. I am very good at letting plants die

例えばオオタニワタリ。1年前くらい前だったでしょうか、友人と一緒に歩いていて、道端で雑草のように生えていたのを摘んできたのです。私と友人それぞれ一株ずつ。

For example, bird’s- nest fern… It was about 1 years ago I think, my friend and I was walking along the road and found some bird’s-nest fern growing like weed. We took one each.

それが現在どうなっているかと言うと、友人のはこれ。

How they grow now? My friend’s is this.



すごく大きく勢い良く育っていて、健康そのもの

It is so big, vigorous and healthy.

この差は何？私のベランダは西日の当たるガンガンに暑い場所だから？お手入れが悪いの？愛情が足りない？

What makes such difference? Is it too hot at my balcony with direct sunshine of afternoon sun? Not take care enough? Not enough love?

土曜日に友人の家でアデニウムを見てから、私も欲しくなりました。それで昨日は園芸店に行って物色してきました。

After I saw adenium at my friend’s place on Saturday, I felt like to own this also. As such, I went to a gardening shop to seek that.

KLのSetapakにあるこの園芸店、高圧線鉄塔の真下に店を構えています　広々とした土地に植物がいっぱいです。全て商品ですから、世話や手入れも大変でしょう。

This shop is located in Setapak area of KL, just under a high voltage tower　 In this big area, there are full of flowers and plants. As all are merchandise, taking care of all of them are tiresome work I believe.

これはブーゲンビリアのエリア。直射日光ガンガンです
This is bougainvillea area. Bathing full of direct sunshine



こちらは背が高いブーゲンビリアとその他の花。
Here are taller bougainvilleas and other flowers.



こちらは草花のエリア。松葉牡丹とダリアがいっぱい。
This is flowers area. Many rose mosses and dahlias.



ビニールの屋根で日差しを柔らかくした場所には、観葉植物がいっぱいです。鶏糞の肥料の臭いがこもってくさいです
Under the transparent plastic roof, there are so many green leaves. However, this area was smelly with chicken shit fertilizer...









あああぁぁ　全部欲しい

いろいろな植木鉢も大量に売っています。
Many kinds of pots are also on sale.





店員さんは全員インドネシア人の出稼ぎの模様。全然英語が通じない　知っているマレー語を駆使してのやり取りでした。

In here, all shop keepers are Indonesian foreign workers, and do not understand English 　I had no choice but speak in my poor Malay.

さて、買ってきたアデニウムはこれです　小さくてこれから大きく育てる予定
Well, this is the adenium I bought Small one as I can enjoy raising this



つぼみが出ています。幹元のぷっくりが良い感じ。
Some buds are there. This fatty trunk bottom looks lovely.



お値段はRM10。約270円です。
The price is RM10. It’s about USD3.

もうひとつ買ったのは小さな松葉牡丹の苗。お値段はRM0.70。約19円。
Another purchase is this rose moss. The price is RM0.70. It’s about USD0.20.



松葉牡丹は以前に種を蒔いてゴミみたいに小さい双葉が出ましたが、そのまま干からびて終了　松葉牡丹は日向が大好きだからガンガン直射日光にあてれば良いかと思いましたが、まだ幼いうちはダメみたいです。放っておいても育つと聞きましたが、放っておき過ぎてはダメですね

I have sowed some seeds of rose moss before, and got come up, then dried up As they say rose moss loves direct sunshine, I gave sunshine. But it seems not so while it is still baby. I’ve heard rose moss needs not much care, but I recognized it cannot be NO care.

今日は友人の家に行ってきました。時々この家の植物を紹介していますが、今日はこのアデニウムが綺麗に開花していたので写真を撮りました。中国語では「富貴花」と呼びます。縁起が良い名前です。

Today I visited my friend’s house. Sometimes I introduce plants in this house, and today I took these photos as they are so beautifully bloomed. In Chinese they calls this “Fu Gui Hua”, which means “rich and noble flower”, very lucky name truly.

実はこの家ではこのアデニウムを種から育てたのです。私は一緒に種を貰いましたが、芽が出ずに終了 。この家ではこのように元気に育ちました。背丈は1メートルくらいあります。にょろにょろ伸びたので添え木をしてあります。

Actually my friend raised them from seeds. I was also given seeds, but never grew. On the other hand, my friend’s have grew as they are now, so healthy. It is about 1 metre high, and supported by some timbers to maintain stable standing position.



葉が二種類あります。上の写真は葉の先が丸いもの。下の写真は葉の先が尖っているもの。花はどちらも鮮やかなピンクです。白色とのグラデュエーションが本当に綺麗です。

There are 2 kinds of leaves. One is rounded shape as above photo, and another one is rather sharp tip. Both are with vivid pink colour. They are very nice graduation from white to pink.



太陽が大好きな花らしいので、外に置いてありますが、当然雨ざらしです。マレーシアでは雨がかなり頻繁に降りますが、それでも大丈夫みたいです。

As this loves sunshine, the pots are placed shiny outside. Then of course they are exposed rain. Although it rains often in Malaysia, this flower seems not to care about it.

この木を始めてみた時、どこか病気なのではないかと思いました。葉が緑だけではなく、黄色や赤が混ざっている。だから、色素不足とか、栄養失調とかなのかなと。

When I saw this plant at the first time, I thought this was sick, or something wrong. The leaves are not only green, but mix of yellow and green. Therefore, I thought it lacks pigment or nutrition.

でも見ているうちに、厚手の葉に黄色の筋が入って、その筋の入り方が油絵の具で書いたみたいで、綺麗だなと思うようになりました。立体油絵です。

But the more I observe this, the more I like this and feel beautiful. Thick leaves with yellow lines, these lines are as if drawn by oil painting. Three dimension oil painting.



調べたらクロトンには様々な色や形があって、別名は変葉木（ヘンヨウボク）、観葉植物としても人気だそうです。

According to some websites, this plant has variety of colours and leaf shapes, and very popular as garden plant or in room plant.

LRTのTitiwangsa駅で電車待ちの間に見つけたこの木。高架のホームから写してみました。

This tree was found when I was waiting LRT train at Titiwangsa station. I took this photo from the elevated platform.

背景が退去の済んで空き家となった市営団地の建物なので、絵的には汚いですが、花は綺麗です。

The background is the vacated government flat, so this is not a nice photo. But the flower itself is very beautiful.

英語名がYellow Flame Treeと言うように、赤いFlame Tree（鳳凰木）と葉がそっくりです。これとこれ

この樹皮はバティックの染料として使うらしいです。

It is said the bark extract is used as dyestuff for Batik fabrics.
